Some folks on Diaspora circulated screen captures of the new Facebook Android App permissions. The claim was that Facebook has now added the requirement that they have permission to read your SMS and MMS messages. I verified this claim by checking my own Facebook app permissions list. Facebook appears to claim this is needed for two-factor authentication (c.f. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/why-does-facebooks-android-app-wants-read-my-text-messages-1434162). I claim there are better ways to do this than being able to read my text messages. So I have uninstalled the Facebook application from my Android phone. That felt GOOD.
