There are Fair Vote chapters across North America that advocate for Proportional Representation through!Electoral_Reform. With Proportional Representation the parties are allocated seats in their legislature, and therefore the power, based on the number of votes received. In Canada we have a Single Member Plurality system (or First Past The Post); in the last federal election the Conservative Party gained 39% of the votes, 166 of 308 seats (54%), and, since all the other parties combined can't oppose them, the Conservatives have 100% of the power, even though 61% of the votes were against them.
